Michel Dejus from CNES tells us that the three hurricanes monitored by SMOS, AMSR-2 and SMAP (see post  on 05/10/2015) were also detected and seen by Megha-Tropiques though the Channel 5 of its SAPHIR instrument (level 1A2) …. as seen on the orbit below!

Where the three hurricanes are quite visible as well as visible on this zoom below/ Megha-Tropiques is a joint mission between CNES and ISRO.

We kindly remind you that the abstract deadline of MicroRad 2016 is October 15, 2015.

The 14th Specialist Meeting on Microwave Radiometry and Remote Sensing of the Environment (MicroRad 2016) will take place on Aalto University Campus in Espoo, Finland, on April 11-14, 2016. Previously the meeting has been organized alternately in Italy and the United States.

MicroRad 2016 is sponsored by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), International Union of Radio Science (URSI), the Center for Microwave Remote Sensing (CeTeM) and Aalto University.

Proceedings from the MicroRad conference will be archived by IEEE in IEEE Xplore, with an IEEE special issue/section planned for the Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (JSTARS).

We are currently accepting abstract submissions through the conference website which can be accessed with the following link:

In the wake of the loss of Aquarius/SAC-D in early June, the Principal Investigators and Program Scientists have decided to proceed with convening an Aquarius/SAC-D science meeting Buenos Aires, 17-19 November 2015 (Tues, Weds, Thurs).   Our objectives for the science team meeting are to review the many ongoing and concluding Aquarius and SAC-D science projects and to survey the development of ocean research in the South Atlantic in terms of observing systems, models, products, and services.   The agenda will allot approximately one day each to SAC-D, Aquarius and South Atlantic studies.

A call for abstracts will be circulated next week.
