End of of the SMOS fortnight at ESAC !!

Category : CATDS, Tools, Training

A very busy two weeks at ESAC have just finished.

First a training course took place at ESAC during one week (May 18-22). It was the third SMOS training course but this time ESA took care (very efficiently!) of the logistics and provided us with very nice facilities (thank you Antonio!!)

This training course was aimed at newcomers wanting to learn how to use SMOS. With lectures intersped with practicals the students (18) were intitated into the different SMOS levels. The course also included a visit of the ESAC facilities together with a fine « BBQ ».

Some of the students stayed on to take advantage of the SMOS Conference which was also a success . The presentations covered all the SMOS aspects together with presentations and posters of equivalent missions (Aquarius and SMAP) recent results and synergisms. Evening were busy with spontaneous picnics and a gorgeous banquet

The presentations will be made available by ESA on its SMOS conference site.

SMOS TRAINING SESSION UPDATE

Category : CATDS, Cal/Val, Data, L1, L2, L3, L4, Ocean, Tools, Training

Hello

We have received 40 applications for our training session! The choice , as we can only host 16, was very difficult.

We have thus decided to:

  • Select 16 with a small waiting list just in case
  • And to organise a second session for most of the rest during the first half of 2013.

All applicants will be individually noticed of course but we will request a quick confirmation

Stay tuned

Sincerely

the SMOS training team

WRAP-UP

Version 04.01 of the SMOS L2SM Processor is now available!

Category : L2, Tools

Version 04.01 of the SMOS L2SM Processor is now available from Array’s web site

www.array.ca/smos

Compared to v04.00, this version addresses two bugs:

  1. When retrieval fails with “poorly conditioned matrix”, segmentation fault can occur as the processor tries to access an empty RSTD vector. This bug has been fixed.
  2. The DSR_Size in the HDR file of the UDP has been corrected from 200 to 220

Also note that v04.01 will NOT work with the current AUX_ECMWF_ products. Hence ECMWF pre-processor must be updated before L2SM can become operational.
