Sylvie Galle received the Ph. D in geostatistics (1987). She has been working two years at CEMAGREF (La Recherche pour l'Ingénierie de l'Agriculture et de l'Environnement) (1988-1990) on soil moisture assessment at watershed scale using active microwave remote-sensing (AGRISCATT'88 French site : Orgeval basin). Afterward she joined ORSTOM (Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique pour le Développement en Coopération), studied soil water dynamics and soil moisture redistribution within a small Sahelian catchment. She was co-investigator in the Hapex-Sahel experiment (1992-1994). Her main interest is in soil moisture variability and its use in hydrological and atmospheric modelling.
