    Activities to derive the surface soil moisture from the SMOS mission, a passive microwave interferometer

●  SMOS Level 2 product from the European Space Agency (ESA)
- Calibration /validation activities to derive and improve the retrieval algorithms leading of the soil moisture.

●  SMOS Level 3 products
- Involved in the LEVEL 3 ground segment : CATDS (Centre Aval de Traitement de Données SMOS),
Developed by the CNES (Centre Nationale d'Etudes Spatiale), CESBIO and  IFREMER (Institut Français de Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la MER).
® Global maps of soil moisture and ocean salinity: daily maps, 3days, decade composites and monthly averages.

●  Surface radiative transfer
- Use of the L-MEB (L-band Microwaves Emission of the BIOsphere) model, Earth surface emission model in the microwave spectrum, and especially at the 1.4GHz (L-band) frequency.

●  In-situ measurements
- Soil moisture, surface roughness, vegetation water content, leaf area index
- In charge of the SMOSREX (Soil Reservoir Experiment) experimental site, à 30 km de Toulouse.
- Prepare and made the data available: soil moisture, soil temperature, brightness temperatures acquired by the LEWIS (L-band radiometer for Estimating Water in Soil) radiometer (L-band L 1.4 Ghz).
